I'm As Free As A Bird Now...

No updates on the boards. So a bit of an update regarding the DFB over the next two weeks.

Saturday and Sunday, there is likely to be no posting, although I could be mistaken. My wife and I have moved OURSELVES to Atlanta...but not our stuff. Thus, we're sleeping on air mattresses. Not that comfortable. So we'll go back to the house this weekend, take with us any other stuff we feel needs human transport, then return.

Monday will be a normal posting day.

Tuesday I'll return to Nashville. Maybe one post that day.

Wednesday, the movers will PACK everything. Very likely, no posts that day.

Thursday, the movers will put everything in trucks and drive it away. I'll drive back to Atlanta. Very likely, no posts that day.

Friday, the movers will arrive in Atlanta and unpack everything in the apartment. Also likely, no posts that day.

Just a heads up.

Message Board Changes

A few new changes at PPMB:

1. The supersecret "rules of the PPMB" will soon be posted by Kara Wild. I believe these are the rules the moderators use to determine when to take action, although I might be wrong.

2. Ms. Wild will be seeking an increase in the number of moderators soon.

3. Ms. Wild has added a sixth brain to herself.

4. However, Ms. Wild is unhappy with the current set of brain icons and is looking for something snazzier. If you have photoshop skills, you might wish to private message Ms. Wild on PPMB.

At SFMB, thea_zara has updated the icons displayed with each user. Instead of using something like the "brains" system of PPMB, each person has a sheep of a different fleese color assigned to them. (Ms. Thea_Zara has a sheep that changes fleece color, as board administrator.)

( My opinion? The brains system could definitely use an update - but it's easy to understand. The sheep fleece system looks really great, but it's NOT easy to understand - does a Black Sheep outrank an Electric Sheep? Ms. Thea_Zara might need to post a key. I think Kara and Thea_Zara should get together and brainstorm. )

Ranger Thorne is posting as "Fezenclop" on SFMB until he can get his "Ranger Thorne" login sorted out.

sleepless posted Chapter 27 of "Yuki-Onna" on PPMB.

Richard Lobinske posted Part 5 of "Falling Into College 33 - The Last Piece Falls" on SFMB.

"Top Ten" List

Go to Google, and just search for the word "Daria". See what comes up to the top of the list. Yesterday, I did this, and eliminated all sites a) related to people having nothing to do with the cartoon "Daria", b) dead sites and c) non-useful sites. (Your mileage may vary on b) and c).)

This was what I got:

1. The MTV Daria page
2. Outpost Daria
3. The Daria Shrine
4. "Excuse Me!" - The Daria Morgendorffer fanlisting
5. The Daria-Jane Conspiracy
6. TV Tome Daria site
7. Planete Daria (french site)
8. The Daria Fanlisting
9. "What Daria Character are You?" (an on-line quiz)
10. Daria at The Big Cartoon Database

I do this every now and then. The Irony Maiden would be the 11th site on this list. And the Daria Fandom Blog is #78 out of all sites, overall. I'll have to do this on Yahoo!....

Major Messageboard Changes

1. The PaperPusher Message Board is up and running again. However, there are a few things fans should know:

a) Rich, the owner/operator of the board for several years, has decided to relenquish his possession of the board. The board will now be operated by Kara Wild. Ms. Wild intends to keep the same name for the board, and as far as we know, there will be no change in board policy.

I am now assuming that it is safe to post at PPMB. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

2. The Daria-Jane Conspiracy is now running properly. Dr. Mike has a few posts about the TDJC and its access issues on the Slash Forums site. Hopefully, access will be a bit more regular and Dr. M. has added a few new features to the site as well.

We are sad to announce that the DariaSlash Yahoo! Group has disappeared. This large, vibrant group discussed Daria "slash" pairings and created original fiction (usually female/female slash, like Daria-loves-Jane or Quinn-loves-Sandi). It is unknown whether the original owner of the group decided to delete it, or if Yahoo! removed the group due to its policy of removing groups with adult content.

At the SFMB:

Ray posted another part of his ongoing story in the secret forum of SFMB.
The Angst Guy posted Chapter 10 of "Forgotten But Not Gone".
Richard Lobinske completed Part 4 of "Falling Into College 33 - The Last Piece Falls".
Scissors MacGillicuty posted an interesting followup to Sandi Griffin's "Popular Girl".

Temporary Adjustments

The PPMB is (temporarily) back up. I might want to warn people who plan to post there that since files are being shifted about, posts made there might disappear. You might wish to wait until PPMB officially stabilizes.

TDJC remains down for now.

The Angst Guy completed Chapter 10 of "Forgotten But Not Gone" at SFMB.
Sandi Griffin completed "Popular Girl" at SFMB.

Useful Finds

PPMB remains down (yes, we know it's being worked on). TDJC is also down, for some reason.

Richard Lobinske completed Part 3 of "Falling Into College 33 - The Last Piece Falls".
Lawndale Stalker completed "Moving On Again", for an Iron Chef on SFMB. (Premise: Daria and Jane part ways permanently.)

The Atlanta DariaCon starts Friday night, so get in touch with ahmygoddess if you wish to attend. The address and phone information are on SFMB.

Daria Fandom Survives

As the SFMB is getting used to the influx of visitors, the PPMB remains in the middle of changing servers. Furthermore, due to the arcane rules of DNS propagation, the PPMB might come back up in some parts of the world before others. Your mileage may vary.

psychotol wrote an...interesting story in the hidden sections of SFMB, a sequel to "Roofies Roulette". Only those with strong stomachs should read it, though.

An interesting argument is taking place at SFMB about which of the two boards prefers "on-canon" stories. The claim is that the PPMB is the "more canon" board and the SFMB is the "less canon" board. The thread can be found here once you get past the initial posts.

Richard Lobinske completed Part 2 of "Falling Into College 33 - The Last Piece Falls".

Status Quo

PPMB and TDJC remain down.

Thea Zara has an interesting rant here that I think is worth reading. It basically deals with the fact that people are flocking to SFMB only because PPMB is not available and the second-class feeling one gets when the PPMB regulars come flooding back to PPMB immmediately. (I swear to goodness this will become part of an essay someday soon.)

Kara Wild informs us that Rich, the owner of PPMB, will move the board to Gamer's server. The advantage is that both boards will be available at the same time. The disadvantage is that both boards will crash at the same time if the server goes down.

For the extremely bored: the follow up story to Jane Lane's Wold-Newton connection (it technically qualifies as a fanfic). One can find it here .

Fan art: "Daria Wars" by John Takis.

Down, Down, Down

Currently down: both the Paperpusher Message Board AND The Daria-Jane Conspiracy.

As for the PPMB, the plan is to move the message board to a new more reliable server. As for TDJC, don't know what's going on. I would write Dr. Mike a support ticket, but since I need to get to TDJC to figure out the support ticket address, I sent it...uh...somewhere.

Even hentaisha.net is supposedly down, so the great erotic Daria art of The Great Saiyaman is inaccessible! (I tell you, I leave for four @#$#%^$ days and Daria fandom goes to hell.)

At the SFMB:

Dervish completed a story in the special secret section of the SFMB.

A Quick Eyeblink

Ruth and I are back in Nashville, temporarily, but leave back for Atlanta tomorrow.
Completed college orientation - in June, I become Joe College again.

The Angst Guy completed Part 9 of "Forgotten But Not Gone".

The Daria Fandom Blog had some access problems. I would apologize for it, but I let Blogger run everything, and Blogger is free. Still, the plan is that after my wife and I "settle down", I'll go to a private service.

PPMB has also had access problems. Kara Wild has talked to The Paperpusher (Rich) and supposedly, things will be improved there within the week.

Richard Lobinske completed "John Lane 4 - The Maze Thing".

The DFB was a bit wonky yesterday, or so I hear. TDJC is a bit wonky today. Every website has its ups and downs in terms of access, sooner or later. So goes the Internet.

Off to Atlanta. Wish me luck!

Krypto-Revisionism In Daria?

From the Wikipedia, and their amusing article on "Krypto-revisionism" :

"Krypto-revisionism is a concept created and named by writers Steven Grant and Mark Evanier, and describes the rejection by the audience of a storyline, concept, plot, or idea in an ongoing series....This concept is especially crucial in order to enjoy a fictitious universe with numerous authors. For example fans of the Star Trek shared universe may choose to reject any episode that does not fit in with their view of said universe. This is not to say that the viewer denies the episode's existence, but rather mentally sets aside any facts stated in the episode (emphasis mine - JB). A prime example is the Star Trek animated series, which many viewers chose to ignore (and in fact is not considered to be canon); another ignored chapter is Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

My question to writers (as this blog was inspired by the idea to have a blog for writers) is: are you a "Krypto-revisionist" when it comes to Daria? Are there episodes or incidents that you...uh...might ignore when it comes to your view of the Daria universe?

Here are my Top Two Instances of Krypto-Revisionism in Daria:

1. The Beavis and Butt-head Years . These episodes are considered "canon" in that no authority has said that they weren't canon. However, very little explanation or discussion of that time period takes place in Daria fan fiction or Daria discussion.

I believe the reason is that most fans haven't seen all of the B & B episodes with Daria. (I don't believe all the B & B eps have even been released yet.) In some instances, fan might not want to see the episodes, believing B & B to be execrable. Still, there are some questions which have never been satisfactorily answered, namely, why did Daria bother hanging around the little sociopathic butt-munches? Was she really that lonely?

2. Depth Takes A Holiday . In nowhere does it say that this episode is a dream, or a fantasy lark by the writers. As far as the viewer knows,

THESE EVENTS ACTUALLY HAPPENED!

If these events did happen, how come Daria isn't in a mental institution right now? If I were chased by the physical embodiments of holidays, I'd have to make some rapid adjustments in my worldview. And yet, the fans ignore this episode, in the hopes that no one will ever have to explain it. Face it, if you believe "Depth Takes a Holiday" is a dream, you're a Krypto-revisionist. (Of course, that might be a GOOD thing.)

Finishing Up in Nashville

Okay, here's the deal.

My last day of work is April 21, 2005. At 12 noon, I'll take off and meet my wife at the new apartment in Atlanta. Thus, no update Thursday.

On Friday, I have college orientation all day. Thus, probably no update on Friday.

Saturday, travel back to Nashville. Unlikely that there will be an update on that day. My wife will be travelling with me.

Sunday, she heads back. There MIGHT be an update late Sunday.

After June 1, when I start school again, don't know what my schedule will be.

Answer to Trivia Question below: the story is "Anywhere But Here" by MMan. It deals with what would have happened to the characters if Lawndale had never been incorporated as a city. Good read.

Partial Update

PPMB continues to pass in and out.

At PPMB (provided you can get to it):

Richard Lobinske completed Part 2 of "John Lane 4 - The Maze Thing".

Undoubtedly the reason for the lack of activity is the lack of message board access. So until things get straightened out, here's a trivia question.

"In which fan fic does Brittany Taylor die in a car crash, Stacy Rowe end up pregnant and considering suicide, and Upchuck becomes class president?"

Wikipedia

If you've never heard of Wikipedia, Wikipedia is a free "encyclopedia" on the next. The link is en.wikipedia.org . Trust me, it's worth a visit, these noble bastards have an entry on just about everything.

...including... Daria . It makes very interesting reading and it's a nice summary.

There are, however, a few items I have questions about. Some quotes from the article....

Anastasia "Stacy" Rowe - (First Appearance: "Esteemsters") Pigtailed Stacy is the secretary of the club and appears to have no personality of her own. She is skittish, extremely insecure, and a born follower.

Was Stacy EVER called Anastasia, or given that name? I don't remember it from the series, in the books, from the MTV web site or anything. (Maybe this is a question Ms. Wild can ask Glenn Eichler. ::joke::)

Mr. Anthony DeMartino - (First Appearance: "Esteemsters") History Teacher. DeMartino is stressed to the point of being put in a straitjacket. He has the habit of shouting every fifth word or so causing one of his eyes to bulge out. This is possibly due to his fighting in Vietnam. Dimwits like Kevin and Brittany really upset him. He seems to be an amalgam of Christopher Walken (appearance) and Kirk Douglas (speech pattern).

From the episodes I catalogued for the Encyclopedia ("Esteemsters" to 1/2 way through "Art Burn"), it never said explicitly that DeMartino was a Vietnam vet. I also don't remember the web site or the books stating that that was the case. Anyone care to correct me?

The really great thing about Wikipedia is that ANYBODY can edit it. The editing function is simple, and easy to learn. If I can get some conformation of the above, I'll do some editing of my own. The above are only two minor nitpicks; I think the author of the "Daria" article did a fine job.

However, the article links to other articles about the Daria characters. Check this one out on Jodie Landon , particularly the end. I don't know WHERE it said that Landon owned a restaurant; perhaps some piece of fanfic made that claim and the author assumed that the claim was true. It couldn't have been written by the same author.

Undoubtedly, a Wikipedia Policeman is needed. Then again, that's the joy and peril of Wikipedia for you.

Post Deleted

What was once here was a post discussing the on-line portfolio of Anne D. Bernstein, writer of more than a few Daria episodes. However, Fr. Martin Sylvester stated that he had earlier been in contact with Ms. Bernstein, and left a comment stating that Ms. Bernstein had requested that the location of the portfolio not be made public knowledge. She had been contacted by other fans before who had been seeking favors of one type or another; thus her request for privacy.

Given our respect for Ms. Bernstein, the post is hereby deleted. (And if you weren't reading, you missed your chance at a peek!)

Jane and the More Amazing Lanes

A Speculative Essay by CINCGREEN

There is an excellent essay called "Jane and the Lanes" written by The Angst Guy. One copy of the essay is here . In the essay, TAG explores the birth order of the Lane siblings, who were first seen together in "Lane Miserables" (308). Most of the essay is devoted to clues establishing which of the children is the oldest. A new revised version might come out soon, given certain comments by Glenn Eichler indicating that Summer might be the oldest of the Lane children.

There is another flaw in The Angst Guy's wonderful essay that I'm reluctant to point out – but here goes. TAG writes:

This episode contains bits and pieces of information about relatives such as Aunt Ellie (and her vacation pictures), Cousin Jimmy (and his modeling career), Aunt Bernice (and her straw hats, from Middleberry), Uncle Max (the bum who likes Trent), and the highly critical Grandma. Maybe Grandma is Amanda’s mother, and Amanda understandably ran off at an early age to become a hippie, starting a sort of chain-reaction of dysfunction in her children.

However, TAG quotes Jane speaking in the same episode:

Jane: Do you know where I'll be this weekend? The Lane family reunion. Dozens of Lanes from all over the country converging in one Midwestern split level to remind themselves why they scattered in the first place.

This indicates that this is the LANE family reunion – the caps in this case are genealogical. Unless Amanda's family is somehow related to the LANE family, either by blood or by some other marriage, it's unlikely that Amanda's mother will be there. Grandma Lane is undoubtedly Vincent's mother.

But this begs the question: who is the LANE family, and how did they end up in Lawndale? As it turns out, the true answer might shock you – if you have an open mind, like science fiction, and enjoy reading the tall tale I have to tell...or is it a tall tale at all?

One of the more amusing creations of science fiction writer Philip Jose Farmer was the Wold Newton family .

I’ll let another web site explain it all….

According to noted science fiction writer and genealogist Philip Jose Farmer, these are the people who are descended from the British noble families and their retainers who were passing the village of Wold Newton in the East Riding of Yorkshire, on December 13, 1795, when a meteorite impacted the ground there. The families, who were traveling in two coaches, were exposed to high levels of ionization. This caused certain mutations in their genetic code. The people in the first coach were John Clayton, the third Duke of Greystoke, and his wife, Alicia, nee Rutherford, sister of the eleventh Baron Tennington; The eleventh Baron, George Edward Rutherford, and his wife, Elizabeth Cavendish; Honore Delagardie and his wife, Philippa Drummond; and Fitzwilliam Darcy and his wife, Elizabeth Bennett. In the second coach were Sir Percy Blakeney, the famous Scarlet Pimpernel, and his second wife, Alice Clarke Raffles; Sir Hugh Drummond, brother of Philippa, and his wife, Georgia Dewhurst; Dr. Siger Holmes and his wife, Violet Clarke Raffles, the sister of Alice. A friend of Dr. Holmes', a young medical student by the name of Sebastion Noel, was following on horseback. Also present were four coachmen, Louis Lupin, Albert Lecoq, Arthur Blake and Simon MacNichols.

These families intermarried in the following generations, reinforcing the mutated gene and eventually producing what Farmer calls a "nova of genetic splendor, this outburst of great detectives, scientists, and explorers of exotic worlds, this last efflorescence of true heroes in an otherwise degenerate age." The inheritors of this gene include: Tarzan, Sherlock Holmes, Doc Savage and his aide, Monk Mayfair, Nero Wolfe, James Bond, Bulldog Drummond, the Shadow, G-8, the Spider, Captain Midnite, Flash Gordon, Travis McGee, Lew Archer, Lord Peter Wimsey, Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, Kinsey Milhone, Mack Bolan, Professor Challenger, Richard Hannay, Denis Nayland Smith, C.Auguste Dupin, Kickaha, Sam Spade, Charlie Chan, and John Shaft.

Ever since then, science fiction fans (and Philip Jose Farmer fans) have a field day with the world's greatest "Reverse Mary Sue". In a "Mary Sue" story, you try to make a character you created great and exceptional, more important than any other in the story. Wold Newton fans do the reverse -- they take great characters they've heard of and try to fit them into a very complex family tree, to simply make them one more heroic character of a family of heroic characters. The idea is: if someone's cool, and you've read about them in books, seen them on TV or watched them on film, and if they are the slightest way amusing, interesting, or heroic, then they must be related to one of the above people.

The obvious candidate for a Wold Newton genealogy is Daria Morgendorffer, but one wouldn't even begin to know where to start. However, I bumped into this wonderful picture right here which provides what we’ve all wanted –- part of the secret Jane Lane family tree.

Jane Lane's family comes from a branch of the Wold Newtons that emigrated to Canada after serving on the Tory side of the Revolutionary War. (The fun article is here .) The three Lane brothers were Thomas, Hondo, and Lazarus Lane.

Thomas Lane and his wife Susanna would give birth to Harrison and Henry. After Thomas died, Susanna married a man named Jekyll. The story of the infamous Dr. Henry Jekyll is known to all (see Robert Bloch'’s The Jekyll Legacy ). Jane's more mercurial aspects might come from the line of that family -- notice how quickly she changed personality when she was angry in "Dye! Dye! My Darling!".

Hondo left home early and settled in the American Southwest, keeping most of the details about his family to himself. A certain Mr. L. L'Amour has written about him.

Hondo Lane, a great-uncle of Jane Lane.

Among Hondo's grandchildren are believed to be the most storied of the Lane line -- granddaughters Barbara Lane and Lois Lane. Barbara married police commissioner Jim "Wildcat" Gordon and had a daughter, Barbara Gordon. Lois Lane is quite well known as the wife of famous reporter Clark Kent and Margo Lane is Lois's adoptive cousin.

However, there is a third brother, Lazarus Lane. He is the least known of the three Lane siblings. There are two stories as to what happened him, and both relate to the mysterious legend of "El Diablo". The first story is that Lane was serving was a bank clerk in California when his inaction caused a fellow clerk to die during a bank robbery, and Lane became a masked vigilante called "El Diablo". The second story is that Lane was struck comatose by lightning and that an Indian shaman, Wise Owl, could awaken him, but Lane would only be awakened in the persona of "El Diablo". Since both stories come from cheap comic books, one should not put money on the truth of either tale.

Most Wold Newton researchers agree : treat the older story as closest to the truth and the other stories as variations on the first. Probably, both stories are true. Lazarus Lane probably was a bank teller in California, he probably either worked with "El Diablo" (or was "El Diablo"). He might have been struck by lightning at some point and his vigilante career might have ended or have been severely handicapped.
Undoubtedly, Lazarus Lane was familiar with the American West and he definitely had a child at some point.

Assuming that the height of Lazarus's "career" was in the 1880s, there are probably two generations between Lazarus Lane and Vincent Lane. Lazarus is likely to be Vincent's great-grandfather.

Immediately, this explains the Lane family's propensity for wanderlust -- all of the Wold Newton families have an urge to explore and get into trouble of one sort or another, being superior beings. Thomas represents the "criminale" branch of the family. Hondo represents the loner and wanderer, and Lazarus's branch represents the need to put down roots.

Vincent comes from the "respectable Lanes" branch of the family. The LANEs wouldn't keep up with the Jekylls, or the Morleys, or the Solos or the Kents at all. The Lazarus branch, being Californians, might have had a bit of the Spanish in their blood – perhaps Lazarus Lane's wife was California Spanish, or perhaps Mexican, providing the dark hair and brooding look that make Jane and Trent so attractive.

In any event, it's an interesting theory. Just remember this – when you cross Jane Lane, you’re looking at a very special young lady. More special than you or I could ever imagine.

--CINCGREEN, 15 April 2005

Note: A certain "Ranger Thorne" might perhaps be writing a story that details the relationship between Margo Lane and Jane Lane. However, Margo Lane is an adopted Lane and is not related closely to any of the Lanes above, although she, like the others, is a Wold Newton descendant.

Translation

At the PPMB:

An interesting topic: "New Character, or Mary Sue?"

At the SFMB:

Ranger Thorne completed two more chapters of "Rock-a-Bye, Sweet Baby Jane".
The Angst Guy completed Chapter 6 of "Forgotten, But Not Gone".

Here is the translation to the story posted below in French by "CYNIC", helpfully provided by Mr. Orange - I did some minor editing to provide nasal consonants.

LHS, morning. The Fashion Club enters the corridor. Sandi, Stacy and Tiffany have heavy winter clothes, red noses and heavy bags under their eyes. Quinn, for her part, is radiant.

Quinn : Sandi, I can't believe that you had to wait for your parent's return to get back inside!

Sandi : What I can't belieb is that by parents believed my little brother's lie. As if they hadn't heard us beating on the windob!

Stacy : A-A-ATCHOO!!

Tiffany : It's... so...unfairrrr....

Quinn : Well, yeah, it's really terrible. Me, I was very lucky with that school dance that "I" organized. Everybody came to congratulate me! And at the end, when Joey, Jefy and Whatshisname ganged upon Corey and Skylar on my behalf, it was all completely... moronic.

Stacy : You bean drabatic?

Quinn : No, no, Daria told me that the right word is really moronic.

Sandi : But Gwinn, the three Js weren't at your barty that evening.

Quinn (a small smile on her lips) : I know! They said they were at another party, and that it really sucked, so...!

Sandi (threatening) : GWINN! They could not thay that, they were at MY party!

Quinn (faux sorry) : Oh, but, as they said they didn't like their previous party, I thought that didn't go to yours, that's all!

The two girls glare at each other and, as the bell signaling the beginning of classes rings, they enter their classroom. Behind them, Daria and Jane walk up the corridor.

Daria : Did you hear that, she's still congratulating herself for YOUR decoration work. All she had to do that evening was to be the cause of a brawl.

Jane ; Doesn't matter. It's not as if the school recognized my artistic work. And after all, she trusted me with the budget, and given I haven't spent it all, I have enough left to keep me in art supplies for at least six months.

Daria : And also to buy pizza to you partner in crime after class ?

Jane (smirking) : For at least six months.

And some art by Milo Minderbender. The woman at the pole is our beloved Aunt Amy, solving the long-answered fan question of what Amy does for a living.

Fanfic Fodder

The Russian nickname for Daria is "Dasha". Type "Daria Dasha nickname" without the quotes in Google and you'll get a lot of hits.

We know that Daria was never called "Dasha" in the series - and I'm sure if anyone attempted it, they might have faced the need for a surgical bootectomy. Still, it might be a useful fact to file away.

The Name Game

Since there's nothing going on, I'll point out a minor aggravation I'm suffering and will ask if anyone can solve it.

As you know, there are three message boards that require a log-in: PPMB, SFMB and the Slash Forums at TDJC.net. Furthermore, posting stories to Fanfiction.net also requires a log-in.

Thus, my peeve. People who use different log in names on each board. Undoubtedly, in some cases it's a matter of necessity since someone else is using the desired name.

"sleepless" for example, is "SleeplessGuy" at FF.net. "renfield" also becomes "renfield1979" I think. The illustrious Thea Zara becomes "thea zara" at SFMB, but "mistress thea zara" at PPMB.

Furthermore, people use their real names at TDJC.net (either that, or Dr. Mike creates an account there and matches it). Thus Gregor Samsa becomes "Shane Greentree" (his real name, I believe) when he stories are submitted at TDJC.net. I know he's not the only example.

I hate to add fans who are better known by a nickname or an abbreviation than their screen name. At SFMB, a fan artist is known as "theartistformerlyknownas" but I'm sure most fans would better know her by the abbreviation of "TAFKA". There are also fans who change their screen name. "et alia" became "Scissors MacGillicutty" and two prominent fans -- The Angst Guy (who is sometimes abbreviated at "TAG") and Mike Xeno formerly went by their real names on the message boards, but changed their names to protect their privacy.

And of course, there is yours truly, who has gone by at least four names: Petrel, CINCGREEN, LyinTamer, and Master Recipient. I generally go by the second name, since that's the most well known of my incarnations.

Which leads to the big question: what the HELL do you call people who go by different incarnations on different boards? Do you give them a different name depending on whether you're referring to PPMB or FF.net? Or do you give them the same name? Is the default name the PPMB name? Or what? WHAT? WHAT!!!?!!!?!

Translation?

At the PPMB: mistress thea zara continued her work on "What You Reap".

At the SFMB: Roentgen completed a new chapter of "Legion of Lawndale Heroes".

From this link : I don't know who "CYNIC" is, but the blog is interesting to look at, and there appears to be some interesting fan fiction.

There is a short piece here which takes place after "Daria Dance Party". Apparently, this takes place the day after Sandi, Stacy, and Tiffany found themselves locked outside in the snow while wearing bathing suits. It's written in French, and the writer is changing some consonants to give the Fashion Club a "nasal" accent. Anyone care to translate? I've already used Babelfish.

Stacy : Du veux dire drabadigue?

Five Word Film Review?

The Angst Guy completed Chapter 19 of "Drive".

There is a site called "Five Word Film Review" at http://www.fwfr.com . "Is It Fall Yet?" is on the film list. When I got there, only three people had voted on it, for a score of 0.5 out of 5!!

Time to log in and give "Is It Fall Yet?" a better vote.
